Plastics

Plastics are composed of polymers i.e., compounds made of many small molecules.

Ferrous metals

Ferrous metals, primarily composed of iron, include materials like steel and cast iron, which are commonly found in construction, manufacturing, and transportation.

Non-Ferrous metals

Non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum, copper, lead, zinc, and titanium, do not contain iron and are valued for their resistance to corrosion and high conductivity.

Paper

Recycled paper is a versatile material that can replace or supplement virgin pulp to create new products like packaging, newspapers, and insulation.

Textiles

Textiles, including both synthetic fibers like polyester and natural fibers like cotton, are integral to daily life, with global production nearly tripling since 1975.

Tyres

Tyres contain multiple valuable materials such as rubber (75%), steel (15%) and textile fibres (10%).

Construction & Demolition

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste includes materials like concrete, bricks, wood, metals, glass, plastics, and hazardous substances such as asbestos.

End-of-life Vehicles

End-of-life Vehicles (ELVs) contain valuable materials like metals (steel, aluminum), plastics, rubber, and glass, as well as batteries.

E-waste

E-waste, otherwise referred to as waste electronical and electronic equipment (WEEE), is mainly composed of non-ferrous metals (nickel, copper, lead, etc.

Ships

End-of-life ships are decommissioned vessels that contain valuable materials like steel, metals, and electronics, along with hazardous substances such as asbestos, oils, and toxic chemicals.

Recycling Europe (formerly EuRIC) is looking for a Communications Intern to support its communications team and gain hands-on experience in event organisation, media, and stakeholder engagement.

Please note that candidates must be eligible for a Convention D’immersion Professionnelle (CIP).

Recycling Europe is the voice of Europe’s recycling industry, including 80 national federations and companies across 24 EU & EFTA countries. From metals and paper to plastics, packaging, textiles, tyres, ships, ELVs, construction & demolition waste and WEEE, our members transform waste into resources—powering Europe’s circular economy, ensuring resource autonomy, and boosting competitiveness and sustainable industrialisation across the continent.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will report to Senior Communications Advisor and play a proactive role in Recycling Europe’s team in policy tasks related to communications, events organisation, partnerships growth and EU-funded projects.

What you’ll do

  • Supporting the drafting, editing, and planning of communication materials (newsletters, social media content, presentations)
  • Supporting communication and dissemination activities of Recycling Europe’s EU-funded projects (project website updates, factsheets, visual materials)
  • Contribute to event organisation and communication (agendas, invitations, communication materials, follow-up, managing event databases, participant registrations and mailings)
  • Track and monitor Recycling Europe’s partnerships and collaboration agreements, and provide follow-up communication

The role offers a progressive learning curve with increasing autonomy and responsibility.
The working language within the organisation is English.

Desired candidate profile

  • Relevant Bachelor or Master’s Degree. Specific studies in European affairs and/or environmental topics are an asset;
  • Excellent command of English (written and oral); knowledge of other European languages would be a strong advantage;
  • High level of IT literacy including Google Docs, MS Office, Google presentations, spreadsheets, databases, web-meeting platforms;
  • An eye for design, and good use of social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Bsky), graphic design tools (Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Canva), and Content Management Systems (WordPress)

What we offer:

  • CIP contract of 6 months, with the possibility of a 6-month extension
  • A monthly remuneration of 1,300 EUR

The position is offered under a Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle (CIP). The trainee receives a monthly allowance in accordance with CIP rules. No additional employee benefits apply.

Interview process

  1. Selected candidates will have a first interview via video call with the Senior Communications Advisor and the Secretary General.
  2. An online test will be sent to the selected applications (that test is eliminatory).
  3. A final call will be arranged for the shortlisted candidates with the Secretary General.
